Then I walked away.

No dramatic exit.

No shouting.

No revenge speech.

Just heels against marble floors while two hundred wealthy people watched the “stray” leave the table.

But halfway to the ballroom doors, I heard Silas call after me one final time.

“You should be grateful my son entertained you at all.”

I stopped.

The entire room held its breath.

Then I turned slightly and smiled.

“Careful, Mr. Vance,” I said softly. “You still think your family is the one holding leverage here.”

And then I left.

Rain hammered the windshield during the drive back to San Francisco.

Ethan called twelve times.

I declined every one.

By the time I reached the Nexus Dynamics headquarters downtown, it was after midnight. Most floors were dark except for the executive level, where soft white light still glowed behind glass walls overlooking the bay.

My security badge unlocked the elevator immediately.

The moment the doors opened, my chief legal officer was already waiting.

Naomi Chen didn’t bother with greetings.

“You saw the after-hours filing?” she asked.

“I saw Silas Vance mistake humiliation for strategy.”
